  • Conclusion

KJV: 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.

NIV: But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

ESV: But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

CSB: But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you

Explanation

The final phrase was added from Luke 6:27b–28 to harmonize the two passages. UBS gives the omission an A rating. It is missing in the best manuscripts as well as most of the Church Fathers. It is present in the Western text-types.

NIV: But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

UBS gives the omission of the verses an A rating.
