NIV: At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus Barabbas.... So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?”

Explanation

The external evidence is in favor of both words “Jesus Barabbas” not being original. The best manuscripts have just “Barabbas” as do all the translations.

However, the internal evidence strongly suggests that “Jesus” was original. You could see why some scribes did not like a prisoner to have the same name as Jesus, so “Jesus” was dropped.

UBS gives the inclusion of both words a C rating.
